Acountabilibuddy.

Last night was lovely.

Everyone spent hours trying to figure out the first time we had met each other. And then in turn, when we had became friends.

Leah shared with me her first memory of me (as did I with her) last night.

In grade two I transferred out of a scary and pretentious Pentecostal school and into W.E., a rambunctious and overtly fun public school.

We went to W.E. together for a few years. Leah and I are different ages so we were never in the same class, but when assemblies were held all the grades would go sit in one big lump together in the gym.

Leah says she remembers one time where for some reason everyone’s coats were in a big pile together after one of these assemblies. I was in grade two and she was in grade one and like every girl our age we had one thing in common – a pink coat.

According to Leah’s memory, she remembers putting on her coat only to find that somehow her zippered coat had been transformed into a button one. And who do you think owned that button one?

“I think that’s my coat.” A little seven year-old Sarah came up and said. And we swapped jackets and that was that.

FRIENDSHIP JACKETS.

My first memory of Leah (other than the obvious one) is not until the very first day of grade ten (grade nine for her). I met her at lunch that day.

But the more vivid memory I have was of that recess. Everyone was everywhere like all recesses, especially on the first day of school.

Robert came up to me and asked “Hey, have you seen Leah?” I looked at him and asked “Leah who?” Rob responded with “Leah Burt!”

I stared him down quizzically, “You mean eye patch Leah?”
