Should auld acquaintance be forgot.

Today, on the eve of the year 2006, I bring you this blog’s highlights. I only started this particular blog in May of this year, so forgive me for not having a fair representation of the past 365 days.

I chose these ten for different reasons. Some for the memories they conjured, others because they were well written and a couple simply because they made me laugh.

Starting from the bottom of the list and working our way to the very best I give you:

The Little Blog that Could, A Year in Review

10. Model Stoppage (Thursday, June 15)
"So do you play on the basketball team? Oh wait! Do you model? Can people get a modeling contract around here?"

9. CB Crew Visits (Tuesday, June 20)
"Today was the magical day of my Corner Brook friends coming out to visit me! Sarah and Meagan made their way down for the day and it was jammed with fun stuff."

8. Kylie’s Goodbye (Friday, August 25)
“Tonight I faced something I never saw coming. Tonight I said goodbye to my one true love. My bosom buddy. My Golden Girl. My secret alliance. My busty blonde chum. My best friend.”

7. Flammable Yogurt (Friday, July 07)
“There was only about a million people up there watching this amazing blaze. I heard one person comment "It takes a tragedy to bring us together." Ain't that the truth?”

6. Trip to Stephenville (Sunday, December 24)
“It was just truly a heart-breaking trip, I was not ready to leave. I never get sad over departures or goodbyes, but I was sniffling the whole plane ride home.”

5. Hubert Lives! (Friday, June 16)
“By shear will-power he has triumphed over death again.”

4. Bonne Bay (AKA Bombay) (Monday, August 07)
“While we were brushing our teeth when we got home, Grams totally snuck out in a good ol’ fashioned I’m-fifteen-and-I-want-to-see-my-boyfriend-so-I’ll-climb-out-this-window kind of way. By the time we caught her she was out in the middle of the bay.”

3. Camping Expedition (Thursday, June 22)
“So it's past midnight, and the whole crew is pretty sloppy. Dave is absolutely sloshed and we just cannot stop laughing at everyone. And then we hear it. Thunder.”

2. Daniel’s Forgetfulness (Tuesday, July 18)
“And Daniel left his pack of cigarettes in my car. . .”

1. 100 Things (Saturday, July 01)
“21. Saying Chesty McBoob [quiff].”

Phew, this took a lot of time. So leave lots of comments saying how much you appreciate me and wish I could be on the West Coast celebrating New Years with you.

Happy New Years!

U.S.-led invasion.

There are many things that scare me. Sparkles, driving on ice, global warming and of course, Islamic extremists.

[Now here's where the water gets murky folks, I have never been or seen or talked to an Islamic extremist (to my knowledge). All I have to go on in this post is common sense, news articles and facts.]

We all know (and if you magically missed it, check out my last blog entry here) that Saddam Hussein was executed last night. The charge was the murder of 148 Shiites in 1982.

Some might be comforted by the knowledge that he's dead, but to me it seems like they just put gas on the fire (No? Read here).

I have a strong problem with this American/Iraqi bias. I know it's been pulled throughout the ages, always the rich, never the poor. But when I see the absolute hype and the tremendous amount of news articles exclaiming that this December has been the deadliest month for American soldiers in Iraq (bringing the death total to 2993), I get mad.

I also get taken back to this study done by CNN in October of this year (which means the number has gone up since then):
"War has wiped out about 655,000 Iraqis or more than 500 people a day since the U.S.-led invasion, a new study reports. . ."
But I'm off topic now, aren't I? Islamic extremists.

Actually, the only thing I have to say on this subject is: Somalia, stop being scary.

Temporary stay of execution is denied.

Ever think you'd see it happen? For some reason I didn't.

You can brave decisions.

In the words of Mr. May (and of course John Lennon):

So this is Christmas.
And what have you done?

Another year over,

And a new one just begun.

If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?

Damien Rice, you've stolen my heart once again.

Stephenville trip-age.

Stephenville was awesome. The end. It was just truly a heart-breaking trip, I was not ready to leave. I never get sad over departures or goodbyes, but I was sniffling the whole plane ride home.

Here are just a few of the highlights of my trip: Spending time with: Leah/Kylie/Ashley, Beaner's grad "party", seeing NANNY AND POPPY, making crafts and cookies with Leah, watching Robert eat pizza that had been on the muddy floor (and knowing it!), seeing my new frigging pimp house, graduating from High School, seeing Mrs. Best/Mr. Larade, playing in a band class, being friends with Andrew, calling Leah's dog Cubby, flying on a plane home (complete with snacks, drinks, hot towels, reading material, candy and pillows) and seeing EVERYONE AND BEING IN LOVE WITH THEM.

Here are some pictures of my trip, you can put the pieces together (to come: High School graduation pictures):

Merry belated Christmas everyone!

I believe in a thing called love, just listen to the rhythm of my heart.

In the past one hundred years, life has advanced so much, people just aren't keeping up with it anymore.

It's good to see that we still resort to the simplest solution in life sometimes.

Dark little fortress at the top of the stairs.

So. I'm in Stephenville.

:D

Seeing Leah and Joey waiting there for me when I got off the bus was. . . Happy. It was just nice to see Main Street and the hospital and Wheelers and everything while coming into town.

Today I phoned Nan to see if she would be home this afternoon so I could visit her. Meaning I had to blow the surprise and tell her that I was in town. She was sooo excited and it made me feel so. . . Happy. Her and Poppy make my life more colourful.

I've seen some odds and ends of people, but am still anticipating (or possibly dreading) the reuniting of Sarah/Kylie and Sarah/Ashley. It shall be most adventurous.

Tomorrow Dave and Holly and I are going to do some hanging out (BEANNN) and pick up our caps and our gowns. Fun stuff.

Hey Robert, if you're reading this, let me know either by phone call or comment what the plans are for the Corner Brook trip? Meagan and I would like to figure out this gift exchange problem.

In other news: Leah and I can make fancy chocolate things! Pictures to come when I'm actually on my own computer.

P.S. Can I please state here, what I'd really like this Christmas is for my friends to stay pregnant free? Please? Thank-you, Santa.

Oh if only you knew.

You know I'm overwhelmed when. . . I don't check PostSecret until Monday. :(

Did I make you cry on Christmas day? (Well you deserved it!)

This is for all my Stephenville peeps. Love.

<3

I wish you better than your heart desires.

Happy 18th Birthday Holly! You can vote too now, yay!

There ain't nothing wrong, with my oversized holiday sweater.

I'm getting so stomach sick from all the studying. It occurred to me while I was talking to Allison before our Poli Sci exam today, that she was the first person I've talked to (other than my parents) since Sunday. Ouch.

I really had trouble staying focused tonight. I only got through three chapters of Psych, one of Anthro and the few poems (7) I have to know for English. I really wanted to get the essays (3) and short stories (4) I need to know done too.

I've worked out what I'm going to study tomorrow and Saturday morning/afternoon before the English exam. If I stay on track that means I can actually help Holly celebrate her birthday Saturday night. It'd be nice to have a break.

Ze will help you study better.

She's all mental and ADD.

I miss Leah. A lot. :(

Perfect in power.

What's better than a Kim Campbell? How about a Hillary Rodham Clinton?
"Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton met on Sunday with New York’s Democratic governor-elect to solicit his support for her likely White House bid, the latest indication she is stepping up plans to join a growing field of potential contenders for 2008. . . "
Obviously (being a female) this excites me to nooo end. To have the leader of the free world be a woman would change the society around us. . . How? I don't know, it might be just what we need, it might screw us over even more.

And don't give me the crap that having a female for President wouldn't change anything. If that was the case they would have had one a hundred years ago.

Now obviously none of this is set in stone. There are many others that could run for and win leadership of the Democratic party (including my personal favourite: Barack Obama).

Still thrilling!

You must be this tall to be Prime Minister.

Looks like mine (and many other's) predictions were untrue.
"Mr Ignatieff had been favourite to win the race, but was defeated by ex-Environment Minister Stephane Dion. . ."
Not that I'm mad, Ignatieff was a little too war happy anyway. Maybe now Canada can be a little more green-friendly (if Dion were to ever win a PM election). We need it.

So don't look for me in confession booth.

Three words for you: fell in love.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of seeing Sarah Slean in concert. It really truly did not sink in until I was sitting in Holy Heart Auditorium (a place Sarah says was probably "home of many Christmas pageants").

I knew this show was going to be amazing when she danced and skipped out on to stage in a beautiful red dress, her smile showing just how happy she was to be doing what she was doing, where she was doing it.

Her voice blew me away. It actually, with no joke, sounded twenty times better than it did on CD.

She bestowed love upon the crowd, mentioning more than once how happy she was to be in Newfoundland once again.

I cannot believe the talent that poured out of her. Her voice was one of the (if not the) best voices I have ever heard in my life. She rocked my socks straight off my feet.

After her two encores, and agreeing to meet everyone in the lobby afterwards it was finally over.

I asked Holly if she wanted to stick around and she replied with "No, I think I have enough love." Couldn't agree with you more, I didn't want to ruin the absolute whimsical image I had of Sarah Slean imprinted on my brain.

10 stars out of 10.

Children waiting for the day they feel good.

SASF Christmas party highlights?
  • Swiss Chalet (yummy!)
  • Cool light-up fountain
  • This
. . . Yeah, that's about it.
